Overview
AGRIENVIRON seeks to organise, promote and implement research, training, consultation, advise and manage projects on sustainable agricultural production and the major causes and impacts of terrestrial environmental change. It also seeks to contribute to management strategies for coping with future environmental changes as well as the enhancement of agricultural production that levies minimal impact on the environment.
AGRIENVIRON is a multi-disciplinary firm applying agronomy, soil science, soil biology, plant nutrition, plant biology, hydrology, geomechanics, biogeochemistry, ecology, environmental science, environmental law and resource economics to the management of land use systems (including disturbed and undisturbed ecosystems). The scientific and technical objectives - in addition to the broad objectives outlined in the brochure - are as follows:
To increase understanding of processes contributing to stable landforms and sustainable ecosystems in agriculture and mining industries (mine rehabilitation) and other land use systems. These objectives will be achieved through:
In conjunction to the above objectives, five major programmes have been outlined:
- The agriculture and environment programme for sustainable production and minimal impact on the environment (AEP).
- The climate change and response programme (CCRP).
- The environmental degradation and rehabilitation programme (EDRP).
- The poverty reduction and rural development programme (PRRDP).
- The urban water and waste management programme (UWWMP).
As outlined in the section under research/project implementation, Agrienviron works in co-operation with governments and their agencies, research institutions, universities and industry in order to achieve its major objective - the application of biological, earth sciences and resource economics and law, to the management of disturbed and undisturbed ecosystems for sustainable agricultural production and protection of the environment.
We also work with our clients on projects covering policy, urban rural development and other allied scientific and technical issues - including farm management.
